Mr. Julian Benjamin Binford, age 83, of 3604 Garden Lakes Parkway, Rome passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at a local medical center.Mr. Binford was born in Milledgeville, GA on December 20, 1922, the son of the late Alonzo B. Binford and Edith Long Binford. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. Mr. Binford was transferred to Rome by the Macon Sears Roebuck Company in 1960 and worked for Sears at Mt. Berry Square Mall. He was the owner /operator of Binford Boat Barn for 25 years. Mr. Binford pride and joy was boat racing as well as building boats for other people. Mr. Binford was a mechanical genius who redesigned boats to make them better. He was a brilliant business man and worked for Mike Nugent as a consultant. Mr. Binford was well respected by the people he consulted with and was always referred to as "Mr. Binford." He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed selling and trading guns. Mr. Binford was a jack-of-all trades. He loved people and loved helping people in need. On February 14, 1996 he was remarried to his first wife, Fran after 40 years of being separated. The wedding took place in a small chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada with their daughter and son in-law, , 1101 Northchase Pkwy., SE, #1, Marietta, GA 30067.Nancy and Ron Guthrie, who was instrumental in their reunion, present to witness their reunion. Mr. Binford was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gladys Stacy in February 2006.Survivors include his wife, Fran Cobb Binford; a son and daughter in –law, Thad Benjamin and June Binford, Macon, GA; three daughters, Beth Brook, Macon, Nancy Guthrie, California and Gail Teasley, Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren, Michele Grinell, Benjamin Binford , Lew Brook and Alecia Toller, all of Macon, Jeffery Schultz, Atlanta and Leslie Gill, Ohio; great grandchildren, Brock Toller, Carter Beth Toller, Tripp Grinell, Jordan Grinell, Caroline Schultz, Palmer Schultz, Ashley Gill and Kaylee Binford.Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Dempsey officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with full military honors conferred by the Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway American Legion, Post #5.The family will receive friends at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home this evening (Saturday) from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.The family request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Heart Association, , 1101 Northchase Pkwy., SE, #1, Marietta, GA 30067.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 Sunday and include, Benjamin Binford, Thad Binford, Joe Toller, John George Landwehr, Greg Shell, Mike Nugent, Clay Davis, Dale Agan and Frankie Morris.
