Mr. Julius Leon Beard, age 63, of 117 Selman Road, Rome, GA, died Monday, September 17, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Beard was born in Floyd County, GA on June 9, 1944 the son of the late Albert Leon and Bessie Dean Fowler Beard. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and served in the United States Army. Mr. Beard was employed with City of Rome Water Department for ten years and then owned and operated Satellite Service for ten years before his ill health caused his retirement.
Mr. Beard is survived by his wife, Jannie Mae Caldwell Beard of Rome; a son, Anthony Leon Beard of Converse, TX; a daughter, Melissa Renee Beard of Rome; a grandson, Markevus DJuan (Tiger) Beard; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie and Lary Smith of the Texas Valley Community and Dale and Randy Rolan of Armuchee, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Free & J. Parnick Jennings, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Stephens officiating and the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.
Mr. Beard will remain in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and at other hours may be contacted at 117 Selman Road, Rome, GA.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home by 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday: Robin Smith, Jody Hardegree, John Couey, Tim Smith, Jacob Alexander, and J.C. Cordle. Honorary pallbearers will include Mark Miller and Keith Spiller.
