Mr. J.W. �Pop� Silvers, 84, of Cartersville passed away Friday, January 16, 2009 at his residence. Born October 16, 1924 in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Clarence Silvers and the late Molly Holmes Silvers. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Margie Wilbanks Silvers; his brothers and sisters, Ruth Morris, Bobby Silvers, Mildred Dobbs, Jim Silvers, and Frank Silvers.
J.W. always felt that family was the most important part of his life and showed it by working hard to provide for his family. He worked in the C.C.C., was a dairy farmer, and worked in an ice plant in the earlier years of his life. J.W. eventually went to work for Thompson-Weimann where he retired as a mill operator. He was also a veteran of the United States Army having served during WW II.
J.W. enjoyed listening to gospel music and blue grass music, and he enjoyed fishing. But his number one hobby was spending time with his family. All who knew �Pop� knew he was gentle and kind.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jimmy Hensley and Deborah Silvers Painter and Michael Painter; his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Wanda Silvers; his grandchildren, Michelle and Kelly Nelson, Daniel Thacker, Candi and Jerry Nicholas, Martha Hensley, and Michaela Painter; his great-grandchildren, Jesse Nelson, Virginia Walsh, Scarlett Thacker, Jamie Nelson, Danny Nicholas, Sarah Walsh, and Joshua Williamson; his brothers, Tommy Silvers and Randall Silvers; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and Melburn Wade and Ola Mae Fritz; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Michael Silvers and Rev. Billy Mundy officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors provided by American Legion Carl Boyd Post 42.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kelly Nelson, Jesse Nelson, Jerry Nicholas, Daniel Thacker, Michael Painter, and William Silvers. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. on Monday.
The family will receive friends from 6 � 9 p.m. Sunday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
