Kathleen Chapman

Mrs. Kathleen R. Stansell Chapman, age 84, of 207 Alfred Avenue, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007, in a local nursing home.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Chapman was born on September 12, 1922, daughter of the late Hollie Franklin Stansell, Sr. and Annie Timms Stansell. She was a member of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church in her younger years and then a member of First Baptist of Lindale for over 30 years. Mrs. Chapman was a loving and devoted wife and mother, but also gave back to her community by 30 years of volunteer service with the Cancer Society. She was an avid cook, enjoyed quilting, a love for gardening (especially flowers) which led her to pursue and completed a class in horticulture at Coosa Valley Technical Institute. In addition to her husband, George W. Chapman, to whom she married December 24, 1953, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Naomi Chapman; four brothers, Rufus, Travis, Kelly, and Jack; and two sisters, Kindness Woodard and Virginia Stansell.

Mrs. Chapman is survived by her son, George "Johnny" W. Chapman, Jr. of Rome; a granddaughter, Terri Beth Chapman of Rome; two brothers, H.F. Stansell, Jr. and Lila of Ormand Beach, FL, and Billy and Margaret Stansell of Rome; three sisters and brothers-in-law, June Stansell Smith and Charmaine and James Ross both of Rome, Ducky and Ed Marx of St. Mary's, GA; her best friend, Janette Marshall of Hollinranch, CO; and her dog, Dooder. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2007, at 11 A.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Stansell officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours the family will receive in the home of Mrs. June Stansell Smith.

The gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Chapman's nephews and are asked to meet in the funeral home by 10:30 A.M.
