Kathleen Sue Keck, 83, of Cartersville, GA, passed away on May 31, 2026, at Etowah Landing Skilled Nursing Facility in Rome, GA.
Kathe is predeceased by her parents, Jack Norton Keck and Marybeth (Campbell) Keck; her fiancé, who lost his life while serving in Vietnam; relatives of the Keck and Campbell families; dear friends; and her many cocker spaniels and much loved cats whom she considered to be her immediate family.
Kathe received a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Whittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. Her fourth year was spent in Medical Technology training at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
During her professional life, Kathe worked as a Staff Medical Technologist, Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor, and After Hours Supervisor at Grady Memorial Hospital; Assistant Chief Technologist at West Paces Ferry Hospital; Director of Clinical Laboratory/Blood Bank Services at Shallowford Community Hospital; Staff Technologist at Cartersville Medical Center; and Supervisor of Evening Shift at Kennestone Hospital. Before moving to Georgia, she also worked as Medical Technologist at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio; Associate Director of Zipf Laboratories in Dayton, Ohio; and Assistant Supervisor (Chemistry) at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio
Kathe was a Volunteer at heart. When she wasn't working as a Medical Technologist, she could be found at Cartersville Medical Center in the Gift Shop, the Outpatient Treatment Center, or Patient Transport. Kathe also trained to be a CASA Volunteer and with the help of God worked to provide her "CASA Kids" with the best environment in which they might thrive and succeed in their lives.
Kathe had many hobbies including knitting, reading, bird watching, bike riding, Bible Study sessions, and playing Bridge and Mah Jong. Her most favorite hobby was competing in the Peachtree Road Race where she laid her claim to 10 tee shirts.
In 1991, the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville became Kathe's chosen church. She served her church and her congregation as a Deacon. She was also a volunteer of the Friendship Table, a weekly free congregate feeding program for the community.
Kathe is survived by Buddy, her 13-year-old beagle who now lives in Grayson, GA with his new feline friend, Sweet P. Kathe will be missed by her many close friends from her Bridge and Mah Jong Clubs, her Bible Study group, her Community, her Family, and her Profession.
A memorial service for Kathe will be held at a later date with her ashes to be interred in the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville Memorial Urn Garden. The date and time will be announced at a later date.
