Kenneth Singleton, Sr.

Mr. Kenneth Lane Singleton, Sr., age 71, of 120 Keown Road, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Singleton was born in Centre, AL, on June 10, 1936, the son of the late Vernon Singleton and Edna Cunningham Singleton. He was self-employed as a contractor and the former owner of the John Deere Rome Tractor Company and East Side Builders. Mr. Singleton was a member of Sherwood Forest Baptist Church and a member of the East Floyd Lodge #728. He was a leader in the Johnson School Community and was a member and past president of the Johnson Ruritan Club. Mr. Singleton served in the National Guard and enjoyed golfing and bird hunting. In addition to his parents, Mr. Singleton is preceded in death by a sister, Frances Burns.

Mr. Singleton is survived by his wife, Barbara Rogers Singleton of Rome, to whom he was married on October 29, 1971; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth Lane Singleton, Jr. and Lynn, Garry Alan Singleton; and Claude Thomas White all of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacie Noel Quarles and Jody of Rome; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Betty Singleton of Centre, AL; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Cecil Stephens of Centre, AL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. in the Sherwood Forest Baptist Church with Dr. Ralph Jenkins and Dr. Talmadge Barnes officiating. Mr. Singleton will be carried to the church on Saturday to lie-in-state from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens.

Mr. Singleton will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at Sherwood Forest Baptist Church on Saturday by 1:30 P.M.: Dale Bullen, Gary Fincher, Jody Quarles, Billy Quarles, Chess Smith, Josh Mathis, Eddie Stringer, and Charlie Pittman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Dean, Ellis Bradshaw, Chad Casey, Randy Arp, William Fricks, Kelvin Ratliff, Johnny Boyd, Carley Langford, Ray Shepherd, and Jeff Dyer.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Chapter, Alzheimer's Association, 855 Abutment Road, Suite 6, Dalton, GA 30721.
