L. Dunaway

Mr. L. J. �Red� Dunaway, age 87, of Rome, GA, died Monday, September 28, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center



Mr. Dunaway was born in Chattooga County, GA on March 14, 1922, the son of the late William Jessie Dunaway and Margaret Mae Dunaway. Mr. Dunaway was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the 501st Engineer Company in the European Theatre during World War II. He worked for 20 years in the viscose spinning department with the Celanese Corp. and retired from General Electric with 14 years of service. Mr. Dunaway had farmed his entire life and was a respected member of the Texas Valley Community. He was a member of the Armuchee Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Dunaway was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Dunaway on July 31, 1987, to whom he was married, February 16, 1946. Mr. Dunaway was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.



Survivors include his children, Avagale Drummond and W.C. Dunaway and his wife Dorothy; six grandchildren, John Casteel, Tray Drummond, Ashley Dunaway, Jessica Dunaway, Jennifer Dunaway and L.A. Dunaway; six great-grandchildren, Brentley Drummond, Matt Casteel, Chris Drummond, Jonathan Drummond, Heather Casteel and Triston Casteel; a sister, Martha Bean of Dallas, TX.



Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1, 2009, at 3:00 P.M. at the Armuchee Baptist Church, 6648 Big Texas Valley Road, N.W. Rome, GA, 30165 with Rev. Glenn Clonts officiating. Interment will follow in the Armuchee Baptist Church cemetery.



The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour at the Armuchee Baptist Church.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and requested to meet at the church by 2:30 P.M. on Thursday: John Casteel, Tray Drummond, L.A. Dunaway, Chris Drummond, Jonathan Drummond, Matt Casteel and Taylor Tucker. Honorary pallbearers include the members of the Men�s Sunday School Class of Armuchee Baptist Church, Charles Green, Walter Johnson, Hoke Clonts, Max Worley, Fred Scoggins, Sherman Hicks and Hugh Selman.



The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 2nd Floor nursing staff at Redmond Regional Medical Center.



In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials be made to the Armuchee Baptist Church cemetery fund in Mr. Dunaway�s memory.
