Mr. Larry Phil Monroe, age 77, of Cartersville, died on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Los Angelos, California on August 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Forest Willing Monroe and Ethel Turner Monroe. He was a member of the Church at Liberty Square where he served on the Pastor's council, was one of the Pastor's prayer partners, an elder, an usher and a greeter. Preceding him in death are his parents and one brother, Jack Monroe.
Larry loved helping people that were less fortunate and loved his grandchildren. He was a past recipient of the Cartersville Bartow County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year, a member of the Board of Directors for Excel Christian Academy and the Cartersvlle Elks Club #1969. He also enjoyed collecting coins, reading, doing crossword puzzles and fishing.
His children said,"Anybody can be a father, but it takes somebody special to be a daddy."
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Weaver Monroe of Cartersville; their children, John and Loretta Monroe of Arcadia, California; Susan and Roger Russell of Camas, Washington; Terry Anderson and fiance', Anjelia Maxwell of Silver Creek; and Tammy and Cam Tomlin of Cartersville; his sister-in-law, Barbara Monroe of Palm Desert, California; ten grandchildren and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Church at Liberty Square with Dr. Joe E. Edwards officiating and speaker Sheriff Clark Millsap. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 -6 p.m. on Sunday and from 5 – 7 p.m. on Monday.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday and they will include: Morris Motes, B. T. Abernathy, Tommy Candler, Rev. Eric Helms, Rev. Jacob King and Rev. Chris Blackwell. Pastor's Council of the Church at Liberty Square will serve as honorary pallbearers and are asked to meet at the church at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association and Excel Christian Academy.
