Larry Woods

Larry H. Woods, devoted husband and father, went to his heavenly home on February 13, 2024, surrounded by his girls.

He was born January 15, 1949.  The son of the late James F. Woods, Sr. and Erma S. Woods, he was raised in Taylorsville where his roots ran deep.  He met the love of his life in high school, and he and Brenda Dawson Woods married young and built a beautiful life throughout their 56 years of marriage.  His greatest love was Brenda, and their daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Shane Jackson, and Jennifer and David Stiles.

Larry proudly and courageously served in the Vietnam War.  He was a highly decorated hero, having earned numerous medals and honors, including the prestigious Bronze Star.  In addition to his service to his country, he was very well known for his musical abilities, particularly his amazing skills as a phenomenal guitar picker.  He was an excellent marksman and avid hunter, and also enjoyed riding motorcycles and making the car show circuit with his 1964 Chevy.  A devout Christian, he was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife and children, Larry is survived by his sister, Margaret Gentry.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Junior Woods and Harvey Woods, and his sister, Helen Satcher.

If you knew him, you know he can't fully be represented with words.  But Larry wrote his own story in the life that he lived, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him so much.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, February 20, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 11:00 am, with Reverend Tommy Harris and Reverend Denver Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
