Mrs. Laura Elizabeth Peoples Brown, age 85, of Palm City, Fl, formerly of Shannon, GA, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at a hospital.Mrs. Brown was born in Tallapoosa, Al on November 24, 1918, daughter of the late Jim Day and Susie Taylor Peoples. She lived in Shannon most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shannon. Mrs. Brown loved her church, gardening, and cooking. She retired from Burlington Mills after 40 years of service. In addition to Mrs. Brown's parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Alton Robert Carney, and her second husband, Belton Brown. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dave (Buck) Kenneth Carney.Survivors include her son and daughters–in-law, Robert (Jabo) and Virginia Carney of Palm City, Fl, Dot Carney of Rome, GA; grandchildren, Dr. Jeff Carney of Atlanta, GA and Jerome Carney of Los Angles, Ca; step-grandchildren, Mark Serrano of Anniston, Al and Carlos Serrano of Oklahoma City, OK; great-grandchildren; Christopher Serrano and Micaela Serrano both of Anniston, Al, and Antonio Serrano of Port St.Lucie, Fl. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 20, 2004, in the First Baptist Church of Shannon with Rev. Loy Frix and Mr. J. Parnick Jennings, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens. Mrs. Brown will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to service.Mrs. Brown will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at the First Baptist Church of Shannon by 1:15 P.M.
