Laura Poe

Mrs. Laura Ada Byars Poe age 83, of Rome, GA, died Saturday, October 9, 2010, in a local hospital.



Mrs. Poe was born in Floyd County, GA on April 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Arthur Calvin Byars and Mary Elizabeth Burchette Byars. She was a member of Cobbtown Baptist Church and loved to cook. In addition to her parents Mrs. Poe was preceded in death by three husbands, Edwin Smith, Trammell S. Payne, and Rev. William Marvin Poe and five brothers and sisters.



Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, John Carl and Ann Smith, Leyburn C. Smith, and Tim and Cindy Payne all of Rome; two step- children, Marion Wills and Tommy Mac both of Warner Robbins, GA; two grandchildren, Cristina Smith of Abilene, TX and Tom S. Payne of Rome; and a sister, Bernice Snow of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.



A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 11, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Dudley officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens.



The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel by 1:30 P.M. on Monday: Timothy Payne, Tommy Snow, Grover C. Byars, Jr., Thomas Payne, Allen Stephens, and Calvin D. Snow.
