Mr. Lawrence Allen (Bud) Millican, age 79, of 41 Doncaster Drive, Rome, GA, died suddenly Wednesday, afternoon, December 15, 2004 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident a short time earlier.Mr. Millican was born in Ironton, Ohio, March 22, 1925, son of the late Lawrence Lee and Helen Dempsey Millican, but had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and Floyd County. He was a member of the North Broad Baptist Church and the Melakah Sunday School Class. Mr. Millican was a veteran of the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman in the 6th Infantry Division serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in Korea and during the occupation of Japan. He was the first American soldier to ask for and to be issued a fishing license in Korea. He was a 32 degree Royal Arch Mason, a 50 year member of the Mt. Signal Masonic Lodge # 508 at Rockrun, Alabama, a member of the Rome Commandry and the Yaarab Shrine Temple of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Herman. Mr. Millican was an avid fisherman, sportsman, and gardener. Prior to his retirement was co-owner of the Millican Plastering Company.Survivors include his wife, Dilla Price Millican to whom he was married, February 5, 1949, a son Roland Millican of Rome, GA, daughters and son in law, Theda Millican Byrd of Rome, GA, and Helen and Richard Solomons of Savannah, GA, a grand daughter, Anne Solomons , sister, Wanda Jean Self of Adairsville, GA, brothers, Herbert Millican of Rome, GA, and Carl Millican of Cedartown, GA, several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence Allen Millican will be held at 11 AM Saturday, December 18, 2004, in the North Broad Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Brooks and Rev. Katrina Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens. Mr. Millican will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 PM. On Saturday he will be taken to the church to lie instate from 10am until time for the service.Active pallbearers serving include; Billy Spears, Dudley Stripling, Joe Momon, Haskell Perry, Randy Millican, and MikeLane. Honorary pallbearing will be the members of the Melakah Sunday School Class.
