Rev. L. C. Whitener, age 72, of 195 Floral Drive, Cartersville died on Friday, April 4, 2008. Born in Bartow County on Aug. 7, 1935, he was the son of the late James Whitener and Janie Ray Whitener. He was a member and former pastor of Blue Springs Baptist Church. He loved singing, preaching and his grandkids. Preceding him in death are his parents, a brother, Jimmy Whitener and a sister, Lanell Adcock.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Ingram Whitener of Cartersville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Ernie Preston of Adairsville, Melinda and Kenneth Pope of Acworth; his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Robbie Whitener of Cartersville; his grandchildren, David Chase, Janna Harrell, Mark Pope, April Hilliard and Brooklyn Whitener; four great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Claude and Christine Whitener of Cartersville, Mack and Marie Whitener of White; his sisters and brother-in-law, Catherine Lee of Cartersville, Dessie Mae Miller of Clearwater, Florida; Margaret and Horace Raines of Cartersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2008, at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. David Summey and Rev. Daniel Latham officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday at 12:15 p.m. and will include: David Chase, Mark Pope, Ronnie Raines, Keith Whitener, Jeff Coleman and Walter Hilliard.
The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
