Mr. Lee Eddie Thacker, age 88, of Rome, GA, died Sunday May 9, 2004.Mr. Thacker was born in Bartow County, Georgia, May 1, 1916, to the late Arthur T. and Emma Woodall Thacker and was a life long resident of Rome. He was associated with O'Neal Manufacturing and retired from General Electric Maintenance in 1975. Mr. Thacker was an ordained deacon and active in the Men's Sunday school at Hillcrest Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, vacationing in the Great Smokey Mountains, and watching the Braves. Mr. Thacker was remembered lovingly as a good father, husband, and hard worker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Margaret Manning Thacker, to whom he married on December 18, 1937. Three brothers, Buddy Thacker, Louis Thacker, and Floyd Thacker, also precede him in death.Mr. Thacker is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Mae Thacker, and Wendell Thacker, all of Barnesly Gardens, GA, and Charles and Carol Thacker of Rome; three sisters, Ollie Mae Huckeba and Gertrude Garrett of Rome, and Ruby Wright of Ringgold, GA; a brother, Oscar Thacker of Rome. Eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Thacker will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.Mr. Thacker will lie in-state at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday by 1:30 p.m. and include Eric Addison, Chad Thacker, Thomas Thacker, Donnie Thacker, Rodney Hayes and Tommy Hiles.
