Mrs. LeNelle Fowler Bland, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 30,
2021, following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh
Wood Bland, her parents, Tom and Faye Fowler, grandson, Chandler Egnor, and an
infant daughter. She is survived by her children John R.--Johnny-- Leachman, III
(Linda), Caroline Baltzegar (John), Fowler Leachman, Karla Egnor (Wade), and a host
of grandchildren, great grands, and great-great grands.
Formerly LeNelle Leachman, she retired as a hairdresser in 1994 in Cartersville, GA.,
married Mr. Bland, and moved to Georgetown, GA. Widowed in 2012, she returned to
live in Cartersville, where most of her family resides.
Mrs. Bland led a colorful, exciting life. She was a singer/songwriter and recording artist
briefly in Nashville---last singing there at age 90 in Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. She was
an actress in some plays and movies in GA and AL, and excelled as a great cook,
seamstress, hairdresser, floral designer, award-winning gardener, and almost
everything else she tried her hand at. LeNelle never met a stranger and loved
entertaining from holiday dinners to tea parties. Her sense of humor was legendary!
An avid card-sender, she sent much love and cheer by the U.S. mail. She baked for
others and visited the sick. She sewed and donated clothing for underprivileged
children. She loved family and friends and was not shy about expressing her love for
them OR admonishing those she felt needed it.
A celebration of life will be held at Center Baptist Church in Cartersville, GA on Monday,
August 2, 2021, at 2 p.m. WEAR YOUR TOE-TAPPING SHOES! Interment will be at
the Leachman-Johnsey Cemetery in the Center Community, and then a reception will
follow at the Center Baptist Church fellowship hall.
The Reverends Forrest Leachman and Kenneth Stepp will conduct the service.
Pallbearers will be Jordan Taylor, Ben Gilstrap, Robert Gilstrap, Stephen Gilstrap, Noah
Leachman, and Teddy Boston. Honorary pallbearers are John Morgan, Mike Pressley,
Tommy Blanton, Andrew Gilstrap, Scott Taylor, Sam Gilstrap, Preston Gilstrap, Brody
Ponder, and Robert Leachman, V.
Her favorite charities include Hickory Log Personal Care Home in White, GA and
Murphy-Harpst Children's Center in Cedartown, GA.
