Lewis Carroll Burton, 84, of Cartersville passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Ranger on January 25, 1927 he was the son of the late Harvey Sylvester Burton and the late Nina Shope Burton. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Edna Terry; and his brother, Edward Burton.
Lewis served his country in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He later went on to run his own business in the heating and air industry. Lewis loved to volunteer and was a volunteer for the Cartersville Medical Center Auxillary. He was a very uplifting person and was known for his great personality and his sense of humor. Lewis loved his church very much and was a member of New Covenant Church. He always had a way of reaching out to people and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Judy and Jeff Mashburn of Adairsville, Susan and Mitchell Bennett of Cartersville, J.R. Burton of Cartersville, and Carol and Keith Kersey of Augusta; his sisters, Ilene Goble, Jewel Thacker, Lois Goble; his brothers, Tom Burton, and Charlie Burton; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at New Covenant Church with the Rev. James Black and the Rev. Greg Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Adairsville.
Serving as pallbearers are Mike Elzey, Chris Elzey, Kevin Henson, Michael Elzey, Jr., Marcus Elzey and Trey Burton. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Cartersville Medical Center Auxillary Volunteer. These gentlemen are asked to be at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The family will receive friends from 5 � 8 p.m. Monday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
