Lewis Dorsett

April 9, 1926 — June 21, 2009

Mr. Lewis Howard �Bud� Dorsett, age 83, of Rome, GA, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his residence.



Mr. Dorsett was born in Floyd County, GA on April 9, 1926, the son of the late William Howard Dorsett and Edrie Leigh Lloyd. He worked with Carolina Freight for thirty-two years and then went to Spears Mattress for twelve years. Mr. Dorsett was a member of the Teamesters Local 515 He was a member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and belonged to the Thankful Sunday school class and PVN Pilgrims. Also, was a charter member for Carpenters for Christ. Mr. Dorsett was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dorsett was preceded in death by his step-mother, Hattie Mae Dorsett; brother, Donald Dorsett; and a sister, Vivian Barnett.



Survivors include his wife, Sara Fountain Dorsett of Rome; a son, Rodney Dorsett of Rome; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Tommy White of Rome and Debbie and Larry Gambrell of Silver Creek, GA; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Ray Curtis of Rome; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; an uncle, Jimmy Lloyd; and an aunt, Sara Goss. Several nieces, nephews, and host of friends also survive.



Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with Rev. Mac McCurry, Rev. Clyde Hampton, and Rev. Rayford Davenport officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Mr. Dorsett will lie-in-state on Tuesday at the church from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.



The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home and at other hours may be contacted at a daughter�s house, Mrs. Sue White.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 1:30 P.M.: Tom Holder, Larry Treadaway, Don Kelly, Rex Williams, Jerry Terrell, David Eury, Jerry Coffman, and Bill Adkins. The Honorary pallbearers will be retires from Carolina Freight and current and inactive deacons of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.
