Lewis E. Earwood A.KA. Burt Reynolds, a cherished resident of Cartersville, GA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on Wednesday, November 24th, 1937, Lewis lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and passions.
Lewis is survived by his devoted wife of over 66 years, Hazel Earwood, who stood by his side through every chapter of life. Together, they built a loving family, including their children Anthony (Teresa) Earwood, Terry (Tracy) Earwood, and Donna (James) Bailey. Lewis was a proud grandfather to Zachary Earwood, Austin Earwood, and Olivia Bailey. He is also survived by his sister Kathy Highfield, brother Larry Highfield, and sister-in-law Lily Mae Earwood, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
Preceded in death by his parents, A. Lewis Earwood and Mildred Buford Highfield, brother Jimmy Earwood, sister Sue Highfield Knox, and numerous extended family members, Lewis now joins them in eternal rest.
A proud retiree of General Motors, Lewis dedicated his life to his work and family. He had a passion for old cars and enjoyed attending car shows. One of his favorite pastimes was playing the slot machines in the mountains, his beloved getaway. Lewis and Hazel shared a love for television shows like Wheel of Fortune, America's Funniest Home Videos, and The Price is Right. He was an avid wrestling fan, particularly of WWE, with favorite wrestlers including members of the Four Horsemen and Andre the Giant.
Funeral services will be held at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cartersville, GA, on Saturday, June 13th, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Visitation will take place on Friday, June 12th, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the same location. Lewis will lie in state from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm on Saturday prior to the service. Following the service, burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers honoring Lewis's memory include James Bailey, Roger Earwood, Greg Thacker, Lee Tidwell, Parker Tidwell, Terry Layton, and John Bailey.
