Mrs. Linda Joyce Garland Cantrell, 65, of Ellijay, formerly of Cartersville, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 2, 2013, following an extended illness. She was born in Cartersville on December 30, 1947, to the late Clint Garland and the late Frances Hardin Garland.
Linda graduated from Cass High School in 1965. Her career included work with the Cartersville Undergarment, the Bartow County Schools and as a homemaker. Linda was a member of Bethel "Crossroads" Baptist Church in Taylorsville. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Smith (killed in action in Vietnam), by brother-in-law, Mark Cantrell, and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bone Cantrell and Sue Lochridge Cantrell.
Linda and Raiford were married on April 15, 1970, at Bethel "Crossroads" Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Georgia, by the Reverend Carl Robinson.
She is survived by her husband, Raiford T. Cantrell, who gives her credit for 51% plus of everything that his career has accomplished during the past 43 years that they shared. She was always supportive and encouraging. She is also survived by her brother Allan (Joan Vaughan) Garland; her aunts, Lavane Sutton and Martha Hardin; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James (Billie Ann Allen) Cantrell of Thomasville, Gene Cantrell of Taylorsville, Patricia Free Cantrell of Rockmart, William E. Cantrell of Cartersville, Melvin (Betty Sue Cantrell) Scott of Taylorsville, Rufus (Kathy Agan) Cantrell of Taylorsville, Alton (Catherine Cantrell) Hufstetler of Adairsville, Lamar (Linda Hames) Cantrell of Taylorsville and James (Sherry Elaine Cantrell) Dupree of Kingston; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2013 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rufus M. Cantrell, William E. Cantrell and Pastor Charles G. Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will include: Jimmy Cantrell, Jeff Cantrell, Steve Cantrell, Allen Scott, Kevin Cantrell, Tony Hufstetler, Darin Cantrell and Daniel Arrington. Honorary pallbearers will include all remaining nieces and nephews.
