Mr. Lloyd Taft Melton, Sr. age 100, of Rome, GA, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Melton was born in Charleston, TN on November 18, 1908, he was the son of the late G. W. Melton and Sally Melton. Mr. Melton was a retired security officer and also a mechanic. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Shannon.
Mr. Melton loved going to church, playing his guitar and piano and time spent with his dog Baby. Mr. Melton was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the European Theatre and other missions while serving his country. In addition to his parents Mr. Melton was preceded in death by his wife Christine Melton; son David Melton; sisters, Cora Williams and Mary Lawson, a brother Chester Melton and also by Imogene Melton.
Survivors include sons, Lloyd Jr. and Mary Ann Melton of LaFayette, GA, Joseph and Jo Ann Melton, Martin and Hyon Suk Melton of Rome, GA, Mark and Debbie Melton of Hohenwald, TN, Fred and Kim Melton and Gordon and Sandy Melton of Columbia, TN; daughters, Gail and James Johnston, Loydene and Mark Stooksbury of Columbia, TN, twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Riley Huggins officiating and his son Lloyd Melton, Jr. delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the East View cemetery with the Patriot Guard providing the escort. The Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion will conduct the military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home. At other hours the family may be contacted at the residence of his son, Joseph Melton, 410 Fred Kelly Road, Rome, GA.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
