Mrs. Lois Ward Wheeler, age 92, of 165 Old Shannon Road, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Wheeler was born in Floyd County, GA, the daughter of the late Robert Calhoun Ward and Addie Sutton Ward. She was a lifelong resident of the Shannon Community and the longest living oldest member for eighty one years at Rush Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wheeler co-owned Eddie L. Wheeler Shows and later went into jewelry retail at Gina Gems Corporation. In addition to her parents Mrs. Wheeler is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Wheeler.
Survivors include a daughter, Carole Cook; two grandchildren, Gina Lybrand and Phaedra Cook; and four great-grandchildren, Cody Bishop, Nicholas Lybrand, Brandi Lybrand, and Angelina Young.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at the Rush Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Russell officiating. Mrs. Wheeler will be carried to the church on Saturday to lie-in-state from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Rush Chapel United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at Rush Chapel United Methodist Church by 10:30 A.M.: Thad Rush, Jack Dickey, Tommy Laney, Cody Bishop, Nicholas Lybrand, and David Frye.
