Lon Rutledge

February 21, 1919 — October 31, 2008

Mr. Rutledge was born in Canton, GA, on February 21, 1919, the son of the late Edward Cicero Rutledge and Lucy Etta Lewis Rutledge. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and retired from Georgia Power after 36 years of service. Mr. Rutledge was a colorful character, well-loved by his family, co-workers and friends. A devoted family man, loving husband and father. Loyal to friends and always desiring to reach out to his neighbors or talk to a stranger at the mall. Mr. Rutledges hobbies included woodworking and gardening. In his later years, he attempted to satisfy an intense curiosity about the universe by listening to tapes because of his severe vision impairment. Mr. Rutledges greatest joy was in sharing stories with anyone who would listen-he could often bring his listeners to tears of laughter. He was always interested in reconnecting with people from the past, by visiting or by a phone call. Mr. Rutledge was a fighter, overcoming many health problems through the years. His most recent joy has been in spending time with his new great-granddaughter, Riley. Mr. Rutledge will be greatly missed by the many people whose life he touched. In addition to his parents Mr. Rutledge was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Kemp.

Survivors include his wife to whom he was married on December 14, 1946, Geraldine Burrell Rutledge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Dr. Joel M.
