Louise Smith

Mrs. Louise Chastain Smith, age 85, of 37 Lady Marion Drive, Rome, GA, died Monday, December 10, 2007, in a local hospital.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Smith was born on July 24, 1922, the daughter of the late Henry and Cammie Landress Chastain. She was a member of the Sherwood Forest Baptist Church. For a number of years Mrs. Smith, along with her husband, was co-owner and operator of Van's Clothing Store on Broad Street. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Van Leamon Smith, and two sisters, Sarah Locklear and Frances Lumpkin.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Michael Smith and his wife, Jackie, of Summerville, GA; two grandchildren, Susan (Mike) Hancock of Birmingham, AL, and Michael Van (Nancy) Smith, Jr. of Summerville.

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Wednesday at 12 noon in the East View Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Jenkins officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include Alvin Dickerson, Darrell Lumpkin and Bill Babb.
