Mrs. Mattie Lucille Hardy, age 86, of 9 Kris Drive, Rome, GA, died Tuesday morning, November 8, 2005, at her residence.Mrs. Hardy was born in Cleveland, TN, on January 23, 1919, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Gunter. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the greater part of her life and was a housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Hardy was a member of the Cathedral of Praise Church of God and enjoyed gospel music and singing. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Hardy was a caring and thoughtful person who was always giving of herself to others. She will be remembered as a lady of "strong faith". Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her first husband, Ramsey Cross, in 1939 and her second husband, Charles Hardy, in 1976. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Imogene Morrison, a son, William Hardy, two sisters and a brother.Mrs. Hardy is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Joe and Annette Cross of Rome. Six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, her "sister in spirit", Josephine Snowden, and several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Hardy will be held this (Thursday) evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Carver and Rev. Roy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the Sunset Hills Memory Gardens with Mr. David Sorrow officiating.Mrs. Hardy will lay in-state in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the funeral hour.
