Lucille Smith

Ms. Betty Lucille Smith, age 96, of 50 Saine Dr. SW, Marietta, GA, died Saturday morning March 1, 2008, in her nursing home residence.

Ms. Smith was born in Heard County, Georgia on December 29, 1911, daughter of the late John William Smith and Mamie Helton Smith. She moved to Floyd County in 1929 where she stayed until her move to Calhoun, GA in 1943. There Ms. Smith owned and operated the Gem Café, and then Lucy's Drive Inn in Cartersville, GA, also assisted her brother in operating Smith Hotel. She moved to Kennesaw in 1955 where she was an office manager of Liquefied Bottled Gas Company and prior to retirement was a bookkeeper at K-Mart in Marietta. Ms. Smith was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Willie Holder and Vivian Smith; and a brother, Everett Smith.

Ms. Smith is survived by a sister, Laura George of Alabama; a nephew and niece-in-law, Bill and Laura Bagley of Cullman, AL; several other nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon March 2, 2008, at 2 PM in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Mr. J. Parnick Jennings, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral hour.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 PM and include nephews and family.
