Mrs. Margaret Murphy Caldwell, age 74, of 505 North Fifth Avenue, Rome, GA, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Caldwell was born in Cave Spring, GA on July 6, 1932, the daughter of the late Jeptha Washington and Georgia Marie Pierce Murphy. Before retirement Mrs. Caldwell worked as a sales and server for Silvers McClellan Store and National Linen Service. She retired from Floyd County School System from the Floyd County School's Cafeterias. Mrs. Caldwell was a member of Hill Crest Baptist Church for over twenty years where she belonged to the Victory Sunday School Class, Church Choir, and to the Keenagers. Also, she was a member of the Georgia Mountain Music Club. In addition to her parents Mrs. Caldwell is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Clarence Caldwell; a brother, Grady Clifford Murphy; and a sister, Mattie Lou Adams.
Mrs. Caldwell is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Rev. Chris Hearne of Cedartown, GA; two grandchildren, Matthew and Amber Hearne of Cedartown, GA: five brothers, Arthur Murphy of Rome, Clarence Murphy and his wife, Lynette of Rome, Harris Murphy and his wife, Beatrice of Rome, and William Murphy of Marietta, GA, and Allen Murphy of Rome; and four sisters, Gertrude Hampton of Redbank, TN, Gracie Lee Murphy of Rome, Frances Brooks of Armuchee,GA, and Martha Clemons of Centre, AL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 3:00 P.M. in the Hill Crest Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Smith, Rev. Chris Hearne, and Rev. James Guy officiating. Interment will follow in Cave Spring Cemetery with J. Parnick Jennings, Sr. officiating. Mrs. Caldwell will lie-in-state at the church on Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Caldwell will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and at other hours will be at a daughter's residence, 175 Miller Road, Cedartown, GA.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at Hill Crest Baptist Church on Saturday by 2:30 P.M.: Terry Murphy, Sidney Murphy, Tommy Murphy, Todd Murphy, Jimmy Hampton, Matt Hearne, and Adam Grant.
