Marie Carnes

Mrs. Marie Scroggs Carnes, age 88, of 4245 Hutcheson Ferry Road, Whitesburg, GA died Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

Mrs. Carnes was born in BallGround, GA on August 4, 1919, the daughter of the late Alfred Swanson Scroggs and Colena Scott Ware Scroggs. She was a resident of Rome and Floyd County for thirty-one years then moved to Whitesburg to make her home. Mrs. Carnes retired as a LPN in 1985 and was a member of the Shannon First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents Mrs.Carnes is preceded in death by two brothers, J.D. Scroggs and Arnold Scroggs; and two sisters, Nellie Mae Baker and Dolly Lipscomb.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Judy Carnes of Whitesburg, GA, Clarence and Valerie Carnes of Ozark, AL, and Alfred and Judy Carnes of Rome, GA and a sister, Jewell Woodfin of Edgewater, FL; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Shelly officiating. Entombment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Carnes will remain in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
