Martha Simmons

September 19, 1927 — July 2, 2009

Martha Nell Simmons, 81, of Alpharetta, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Alpharetta on September 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Blake and the late Nina Bell Grimes Blake. Martha had been employed by Ox Bow Pants Factory for a short time but finished her working years with the Fulton County School System until her retirement at seventy years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Kenneth Franklin Morgan; her daughter, Elaine Smith; and her brothers, Louie Blake and Edward Blake.



Martha was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Alpharetta where she sang in the choir and attended The Lady�s Sunday School Class. She loved her Lord, her church and her pastor. Martha was a cheerleader, always there to encourage and support her pastor. Being outside with her flowers and gardening was a few of her hobbies along with collecting angels.



Survivors include her husband, Ralph Simmons; her daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Larry Lambert of White; her grandchildren, Katie Lambert of White, Rhonda Carpenter of Stanardsville, Virginia, and Eric Smith of Orange, Virginia; her nephew, Johnny Blake of Alpharetta; and five great-grandchildren.



Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at County Line Baptist Church in Alpharetta with Rev. Scott Truitt officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery. Martha will be carried to the church on Sunday to lie in state one hour prior to the service.



Serving as pallbearers will be Jesse Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, Jarad Wilson, Johnny Blake, Wayne Truitt, and Pat McLauglin. The gentlemen are requested to meet at the church by 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.



Those desiring to send memorial contributions may do so to The Gideons or to County Line Baptist Church of Alpharetta.



The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
