Mr. Martin James (Marty) Cole, T/Sgt U.S. Air Force, retired, age 70, of 7 Black Forest Trail, SE, Rome, GA, died Tuesday Morning, December 28, 2004 at his residence following several weeks of declining health.Mr. Cole was born in Minneapolis, NC, October 10, 1934, son of the late Lovie James and Edith Young Cole, but had spent his early life in Canton, Ohio. He was a graduate of the Timken High School. After his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Vietnam War and after retirement he came to Rome to make his home in 1973. He was a charter member of the Seven Hills Christian Church, where he served as an Elder, Church Treasurer, and Sunday School teacher for the Men's Bible Class. He had been associated with Redmond Regional Medical Center as Chief Engineer and prior to his second retirement was associated with Cartersville Medical Center as Director of Plant Operations. He was a member of the Rome-Floyd Humane Society, a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association, and the Ridge Ferry Walking Group. He loved NASCAR, Bible Study, attending his grandchildren's sports and school events and walking his dog Zoe. He was an avid high school football fan of the Rome Wolves, the Model Blue Devils and the Calhoun Yellow Jackets and was loved by all the players.Survivors include his wife, the former Nelda Janice Battles to whom he was married September 15, 1957, two sons and daughter in law, Daniel (Danny) Cole of Rome, GA, Edward (Eddie) and Veronica Cole of Silver Creek, GA, one daughter, Debra (Debi) McGhee of Rome, a brother, Marvin Cole of Canton, Ohio, two sisters and brother in law, Nadene Hale of Millersburg, Ohio, Shirley and Don Rudrick of Mansfield, Ohio, three grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Cole, and Coley McGhee, several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral Services for Mr. Martin James (Marty) Cole, T/Sgt U.S. Air Force Retired, will be held at 2 PM Friday, December 31, 2004 in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. John Battles and Rev. Tony Christie officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with personnel from Robbins Air Force Base in Charge of full military honors. Mr. Cole will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 PM.Honorary Pallbearers serving include; Amanda and Andrew Cole, Coley and Dwayne McGhee, Skip Brant, Ted Cranmore, Larry Garrett, Douglas and Kendra Christie, Russell Murphy, Rev. Billy Murdock, Don, Allen, and Dan Rudrick, John and George Schroeder, Marshall Pierce, Marshall Fox, Bill Faver, Bo Youngblood, Dick Gutheridge, Donnie Godfrey, Sonny Steadman, Cleaston Cabe, Allen Siniard, Charles Graves, Tyrus McClendon, Adam Urbano, Rev.
