Harold Marvin Payne, 80, of 1408 S. Mock Rd. Albany, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2007 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Atlanta. He was born March 19, 1927 in Fairmount, the son of the Late Dewey G. Payne and the Late Lydia Cochran Payne. Marvin retired from the United States Marine Corps at the rank of Staff Sergeant after 23 years of service, including the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Mary Ann Staitmyer Payne.
He is survived by his son, John Glenn Payne of Norcross; two sisters, Grace Winkler of Dahlonega, and Evelyn Weathington of Carrollton; six brothers, H. B. Payne of Acworth, J. R. Payne of Jasper, Paul Payne of Blue Ridge, James Payne of Lady Lake, FL, Hugh Payne of Newport, NC and Thomas Payne of Elijay, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, September 12, 2007 in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services 430 Cassville Rd. Cartersville, with Rev. Keith Willard officiating. Burial follwed with full military honors in the Georgia National Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 – 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
