Mrs. Mary Underwood Blalock, 79, passed away, Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at her residence. Born in Flint, Michigan, June 21, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Rev. James. L. Underwood and the late Lonnie Mae Gainous Underwood. Preceding her in death are her parents; her brothers, Rev. James Underwood, Paul, Joe and Dean Underwood; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Beach.
Mary was employed for fifteen years with Lee College as Secretary to the Dean of Admissions and Registrar. She was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God for over twenty years before moving to Cartersville in 1994, where she has been a member of The Cartersville Church of God at Liberty Square until her death.
She is survived by her husband of fifty eight years, Cecil Jerrell Blalock, Sr.; her two daughters and son-in-law, Cyndi and Dr. Jim Allen; and Angela Blalock; her son and daughter-in-law, Cecil J. Jr. and Patricia Blalock; her grandchildren, Dr. Kristy Allen Rostad and Dr. Brad Rostad of Atlanta, Tiffany and David Hawkins of Cleveland, TN, Gerrod and Tehya Blalock of Cleveland, TN, and Alexis Blalock of Cartersville; one great grandchild, Nathan Hawkins of Cleveland, TN; three sisters, Dr. Lois U. Beach of Cleveland, TN, Virginia Peters of The Villages, Florida and Barbara Withrow of Cleveland, TN; four brothers, David Underwood of Kingsport, TN, Samuel Underwood of Clarksville, TN, E.V. Underwood of Cleveland, TN and Melvin H. Underwood of The Villages, Fl.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Dr. Joe E. Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, TN.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Brad Rostad, Gerrod Blalock, David Hawkins, David, Samuel, E.V. and Melvin Underwood and Henry Withrow.
The family will receive friends from 6 � 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
