Mrs. Mary Jean Duvall Blevins, age 74, of 2 Orr Street, Rome, GA, suddenly went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on May 24, 2008, while visiting relatives in Savannah, GA.
Mrs. Blevins was born on December 27, 1933, the daughter of the late Ben T. and Ida Mae Duvall. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the greater part of her life. Before her retirement, she had worked at Wiseman Bakery and Integrated Products and later had operated an upholstery shop from her home. Mrs. Blevins was a founding member of the King James Bible Believers Church, Rome, GA, and a church whose first meeting were held in her home. She had enjoyed reading through her King James Bible twice in the past three years and had begun reading through again in 2008. She was also an active gardener and enjoyed exercising at the Vitality Center of Rome. After the death of her husband, she began spending much of her time ministering and caring for her family members. During this time, she also enjoyed a number of pleasure trips with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blevins was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Dar Blevins, in 2003; a sister, Florine Hibberts; and two brothers, Benny Duvall and John Duvall.
Mrs. Blevins is survived by four children: daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Wesley Hicks of Armuchee; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Beverly Blevins of North Augusta, SC, Tony Blevins and Cathy Procaskey of Acworth, and Tim and Paula Blevins of Armuchee; two sisters, Barbara Dean and Susan Williams both of Rome; and a brother, Tracy Duvall of Rome. Also, surviving are six beloved grandchildren, Nicole Hicks of Armuchee, Anthony Dar Blevins II of Monroe, Paul Blevins of North Augusta, SC, and Aaron Blevins, Jonathan Blevins and Hannah Blevins, all of Armuchee. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 1:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Alex Underwood officiating. Entombment services will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Blevins will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and at other hours may be contacted at 2 Orr Street, Rome, GA.
