Mary Opal Colston, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12th, 2026, at the age of 91, in Taylorsville, Georgia. Born on Monday, February 5th, 1934, in Toccoa, Georgia, Mary was a cherished member of her community and family, touching the lives of all who knew her with her warmth and kindness.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Edward Colston, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of love and partnership. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her children: Mark Colston (Sissy), Sheryl Eldridge (Jim), Michael Colston (Terry), Matthew Colston (Jill), Sheila Ledbetter (Wayne), Timothy Colston (Pam), Jon Colston (Robin), Sam Colston (Cathy), Joel Colston, and Carl Colston (Shannon); her sister, Jean Youngblood; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Naomi Cash; her son, David Joseph Colston; and her siblings, Frank Cash, Ernest Cash, and Betty Wright. Despite these profound losses, Mary remained steadfast in her devotion to her family, providing an enduring legacy of love and resilience.
A woman of deep faith, Mary loved Jesus with all her heart and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially gardening. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing spirit and her joy in the vibrant beauty of nature. Mary was not only a matriarch who loved her family to the very end but also a shining example of faith and dedication to community.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Mary's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cartersville, GA with Reverend Jason Musgrove officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Crossroads Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share memories during the visitation on Friday, January 16th, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Carl Colston, Mark Colston, Sam Colston, Michael Colston, Jon Colston, and Matthew Colston.
