Mary Cornett

June 18, 1921 — February 19, 2008

Mrs. Mary Lou Geneva Shope Cornett, age 86, of formerly of 59 Gaines Rd. NE, Rome, GA, died February 19, 2008, in her residence 1170 Chulio Rd. SE.

Mrs. Cornett was born in Union County, Georgia on June 18, 1921, daughter of the late James L. Shope and Ollie Jane Everett Shope. She was a graduate of Model High School where she was "Miss Model" for two years. Mrs. Cornett was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Prior to retirement she was associated with Regency Sportswear for 10 years; she also was involved with Klopman Mills and sold Stanley Home Products. After retirement Mrs. Cornett sewed for her daughter at Lynn's Custom Fabrications for many years. She had spent most of her life in Rome and Floyd County and enjoyed needle point. Mrs. Cornett was preceded in death by her husband on April 13, 2006, Felton Cornett to whom she had been married for 66 years; and a brother, Wilburn Foy Shope.

Mrs. Cornett is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Felton and Kathy Cornett of Gainsville, GA, and Harry Lemuel and Debbie Cornett of Adairsville, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Cornett Harris and Ray Harris of Rome, and Lynn Cornett Upton and John Upton of Somerset, KY; and eight grandchildren, Kimberly Cornett Myers (Mike), Mark Felton Cornett, Christie Lynn Baker (Ethan), Elizabeth Cornett, Colby Upton, Harris Upton, Chandler Ray Harris III, and John Mark Harris.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 22, 2008, at 2 PM in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Cosby officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.

The family will receive this (Thursday) evening from 6 until 8 PM in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours the family will be at the home of a daughter, Lisa Harris, 535 Cooper Dr., Rome, GA.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers and are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 PM Friday and include Chandler R. Harris III, John Mark Harris, Colby Upton, Jerry Lumpkin, Lewis Cornett, and Mark Cornett.
