Mary Erwin

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hammond Erwin, age 83, of 8 Rosewood Road, Rome, GA, died Thursday, September 11, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Erwin was born in Fort Worth, TX on January 23, 1925, the daughter of the late Jake and Estella Gary Hammond. Mrs. Erwin worked at Sears for many years and later retired from Belk-Rhodes Department Store. She was a member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to her parents Mrs. Erwin was preceded in death by her husband, Edward T. Erwin; a son, James Gary Erwin; and four brothers, Paul Gary, James Gary, Frank Gary, and Sam Gary.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Nita Erwin of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Lee R. Stanley of Rome; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Drummond officiating. Interment will be held on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church by 10:30 A.M.: Ryan Diprima, Danny Diprima, Barry Dupree, Adam Stanley, and Keith Stanley.
