Mrs. Mary L. Farmer, age 89, of 180 Woodrow Wilson Way, Rome, died Thursday, November 23, 2006, in a local hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Farmer was born in the Lavender community of Floyd County, GA, on January 30, 1917, the daughter of the late William Henderson Long and Minnie Lee Abrams Long. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the greater part of her life and was a longtime member of the North Broad Baptist Church. Since 1962 Mrs. Farmer was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She enjoyed dancing and music and loved bingo. She was known for her enthusiastic smile and humble disposition. For over 22 years Mrs. Farmer was a hostess with the Holiday Inn in Rome. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Farmer in 1962, to whom she was married in April of 1943. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Arlie and Royce Long, and two sisters, Ruby Pierce and Maurine Goddard.Mrs. Farmer is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Marvin McGinnis of Leesburg, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Emily Farmer of Silver Creek, GA; three grandchildren, John (Emily) McGinnis of Acworth, GA, Kenneth McGinnis of Kennesaw, GA and Jason (Amy) Farmer of Tunnel Hill, GA; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Molly McGinnis. A cousin, Birdie Long Ray, niece, Barbara Hatch, nephew, Jack Bivins and several great-nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Farmer will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Dr. Tony Brooks, Rev. Katrina Brooks and Mr. J. Parnick Jennings, Sr. officiating.
