Mary Kight

Ms. Mary Leat Kight, 92, of Calhoun, Georgia, and formerly of Rome, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 25, 2007 at the Gordon Healthcare Center.

She was born December 15, 1914 in Heard County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Quiller Buchanan and Mary Ella Parker Kight.. Along with her parents she is also preceded in death by sisters, Nora Shannon, Ruthie Clements, Inez Hammonds and Lottie Daniel; brothers, Ray Kight, Wilford Kight, Ed Kight, and Wennit Kight.

Prior to living in Calhoun, Ms. Kight was in the Rome area since 1940. She was a former employee for thirty-five years at Dellinger Chenille and Rug Mill where she was a machine and winding operator. Beginning in 1988 she served as a Foster Grandparent at the Northwest Regional Hospital. She was a member of the Shorter Avenue Baptist Church where she also attended the Martha Rogers Ladies Bible Class.

Ms. Kight is survived by her nephews and nieces, Kenneth Kight of Rome, Ray Kight Jr. of Bermuda Run, N.C., Hulyn Kight, Kathryn Padgett, Sue Lane, all of Rome, Joyce McGowan of Calhoun, Frances Sherman, Lavern Williams, Danny Daniel, Steve Daniel all of Bowdon, Cecil Kight, Louise Alford both of Rome, Kathleen Drew of Silver Creek, Christine Wallace of Rome, Eugene Hammond, Larry Clements both of Lindale, Jimmy Clements of Silver Creek, Pat Womack of Rome, and Vickie Touchstone of Euharlee.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Leat Kight will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Reverend Jon Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow at the East View Cemetery.

The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers and should meet at the funeral home on Wednesday by 1:30 P.M. and include, Kenneth Kight, Hulyn Kight, Roger McGowan, Tim McGowan, Jimmy Clements, and Larry Clements.

The family will receive friends at the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Kight to the Shorter Avenue Baptist Church, 1410 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165.
