Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Litty, 93, of Cartersville, GA, widow of the late William C. Litty, passed away in her home, Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
She was born March 20, 1920 in Attalla, Alabama, the daughter of the late Fred Cox and the late Mary Etta Beard Cox. Mary Elizabeth was a graduate of Birmingham Southern College. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Attalla, and since moving to Cartersville attended Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. Mary Elizabeth was a devoted and loving wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved her pets, was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, golf, and watching tennis.
Mary Elizabeth will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jane Abernathy and her husband Rodney of Cartersville; son, William C. Litty and his wife Mary of Downingtown, PA; grandchildren, Joanna (Green) Finnis, James William Green, Kathryn Litty, and Will Litty; and great grandchildren, Sarah Jane Stokes, and Ava Skye Green.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside on Monday, May 6, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. central time in Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden, Alabama, with Parnick Jennings officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery, one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, 100 West Church Street, Cartersville, GA 30120 in memory of Mrs. Litty.
