Mattie Gill

October 28, 1927 — March 4, 2010

Mrs. Mattie �Margie� Gammon Gill, age 82, of Rome, GA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in a local hospital.



Mrs. Gill was born in Louisa, Virginia on October 28, 1927, the daughter of the late Naamon and Mary Edna Gammon. She retired from West Point Pepperell in 1979 and then was a homemaker. Mrs. Gill was a member of Rome Baptist Temple. She enjoyed playing the piano and her flowers. In addition to her parents Mrs. Gill was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Gill; three brothers, Ray Gammon, Early Gammon, and Meade Gammon; and a sister, Tennie Sharp.



Survivors include her husband, William O. Gill to whom she was married on July 21, 1945; a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Teresa Gill of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Butch Sexton of Hendersonville, NC; six grandchildren, Tracy Gill of Key West, Fl, Mitchell Gill of Cleveland, TN, Angie Gill of Chattanooga, TN, Shannon Smith and her husband, Kiley of Cave Spring, GA, Holly White and her husband, Terry of Rome, GA, Tara Johnson and her husband, Stephen of Rome, GA.; eight great-grandchildren, Kelly Gill of Huntsville, AL, Joshua Gill of Huntsville, Al, Matthew Roberts of Chattanooga, TN, William Edenfield of Cave Spring, GA, Jamie Edenfield of Cave Spring, GA, Ashley Gill of Cleveland, TN, Laura Bing of Cave Spring, GA, and Marley White of Rome, GA; a great-great-grandson, Rory Gill of Huntsville, Al; and two sisters, Ruth Jones of Louisa, VA and Adele Baldwin of Rome, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.



A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Billy Goolesby and Rev. Jack Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.



The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel by 1:30 P.M.: Larry Worley, Griffin Worley, Brian Worthington, Terry White, Kiley Smith, William Edenfield, Gary Harper, and Stephen Johnson.
