Mr. Max Donald Shaw, age 75, of Rome, GA, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at his residence after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Shaw was born in Rome, GA on July 26, 1934, the son of Dorothy Rigdon Shaw and the late Charlie Shaw. Mr. Shaw retired from Georgia Kraft-Inland Rome as a welder/pipefitter with forty years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Shaw was a member of the American Legion and the Pilots Association. He loved to fly and at the age of 72 he received his pilot�s license. Mr. Shaw was a 1954 graduate of Rome High School and a 2002 graduate of Shorter College earning his B.S. in Economics at the age of 68. He was a member of Mt. Alto Baptist Church where he served on the Finance Committee and the Children�s Dept. for Sunday School. Mr. Shaw was an avid reader and enjoyed his Bible study and teaching and working with children in Sunday School. In addition to his father Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry Lee and Alma Johnson, a niece Donna R. Shaw, sister-in-law, Martha Johnson and brother-in-law, James Helms.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, JoAnn Shaw; daughters, Susan M. Shaw and Karen J. Shaw both of Corvallis, Oregon; grandchildren Skylar and Cooper Chamness; mother, Dorothy R. Shaw; brother, Charles T. Shaw and his wife Samantha of Atlanta, GA; sister, Ramona Shaw Helms of Lindale, GA; brother-in-law, Gerald L. Johnson, Sr. of Enterprise, AL. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 25, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Alto Baptist Church with Dr. Frank Wood officiating and a poem to be read by his daughter Karen Shaw. Interment to follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour at Mt. Alto Baptist Church.
The following have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Bill Carter, Daniel Moore, Charles T. Shaw, Gerald L. Johnson, Sr., Scott Reed, Greg Helms and Karen Shaw. Honorary pallbearers include Bobby Thompson, Edwin Sims, Robert Byars, �The Clique�, Steve Warren, Grover Byars and Bill Waters.
