Maybelle McIntyre Stewart, age 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family. Born on July 22,1926, in Emerson, Georgia, to Jerry and Emmie McIntyre, Maybelle leaves behind a life defined by love, faith, family, joy, and laughter. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Maybelle is survived by her daughters, Brenda Leamer (JR) and Sandi Wallace; and her son-in-law, Pete Hight. She was a proud grandmother to Amanda Hebert (Chris), April Abernathy (Kyle), Andrew Hight (Amanda), Alex Hight (Crista), Joshua Dawkins, Jacob Dawkins (Addy), Brandon Wallace (Kyle), and Whitney Wallace, along with her bonus grandchildren, Tyler Leamer (Talley) and Ashley Anderson (Jason). She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Hight; her sons, Jerry and Terry; her son-in-law, Scottie Wallace; her great-grandson, Asher Abernathy; and her granddaughter-in-law, Christina Dawkins. She was also preceded by her brothers, Virgil, Stanford, and Junior, and special sister-in-law, Nell McIntyre, along with various other family members.
Maybelle was known as an amazing cook, a talented seamstress, and a valued member of her community. People from all over would come for her fried apple pies at the Dixie Highway yard sale – they came for the pie, but stayed for the conversation. To her family, she was known simply as “Nanny”—a name that came naturally after her grandchildren were born. That name became more than a title; it became who she was. Nanny was warmth, comfort, and a place everyone knew they could come back to.
Nanny worked tirelessly for most of her life to give her three daughters the best lives she could. Through years of hard work and sacrifice, she eventually retired from Georgia Duck and Cordage Mill, where she worked as a textile worker in Avondale Estates. She was a faithful member of New Beginning Baptist Church in White, Georgia, a house of worship where she could indulge in her love of gospel songs, southern cooking, and good fellowship.
She had a big sweet tooth, a deep love for animals, and a way of making people feel at ease the moment they were in her presence. Nanny loved a good story, old westerns, crossword puzzles, and laughter that could fill a room. She loved to travel, she loved the mountains, and she found joy in the simple things— like sitting on her front porch swing, talking with family, and being surrounded by the people she loved most. She was rarely alone, and she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
While flowers are appreciated, the family would also appreciate donations to the Etowah Valley Humane Society or the Bartow County Animal Shelter.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Regency SouthernCare Hospice, and especially her nurse, Shirley McDaniel, for their care, compassion, and support.
Serving as pallbearers are Alex Hight, Joshua Dawkins, Jacob Dawkins, Brandon Wallace, Seth Hebert, and Corban Abernathy, and honorary pallbearer, Luke Hebert.
Maybelle’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, 3/23/2026, with visitation from 10AM-12:30PM EST, with her service starting at 1PM EST, located at Remnant Church, 115 International Pkwy, Adairsville, GA 30103, with Pastor Andrew Hight officiating.
