Melvin Stanley, 73, of Cartersville, passed away August 15, 2016 at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, GA. Stanley, the youngest of 15 children, was born May 1, 1943 in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late Dewitt Stanley and Margarett Bell Johnson Stanley.
He was employed by Glidden Durkee Paint Company for 23 years and Shaw Industries (Plant 13) until retirement in May, 2008 . Melvin enjoyed making things, working with his hands, fishing and tending to the animals. He loved his family and his white FORD truck. It was once said "Melvin never let any grass grow under his feet". In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his son Christopher Stanley, his grandson Matthew Stanley; his siblings Calvin (Judy) Stanley, Bobby Stanley, Alfred (Nona) Stanley, Annabell (Ken) Stanley Picha, Betty Lou Stanley, Thelma Louise Stanley, Billy "Wiper" Stanley, Ron (Maggie) Stanley; infant brother, Hattie Mae Stanley Tamburin, and Rose Eleanor Stanley Pedersen; daughter-in-law, Toni Gail Freeman Stanley and sister-in-law, Mary Kay Rush Stanley.
He is survived by his wife Karen Sue Falland Stanley of Cartersville, GA; his daughter Margaret (Dean) Wood; his sons Doug (Cassandra) Stanley, Steven Stanley, Joey (Shannon) Stanley, Jeremy Stanley, Timmy Stanley, and Mitchell Stanley; 12 grandchildren Christian (Jaimie) Wood, Deloy Bradley (Evan) Wood, Randy (Brittany) Stanley, July Turner, Chesney Stanley, Ronnie (Kim) Talley, Hayley Freeman, Sierra Stanley, Skyler Stanley, Garrett Stanley, Corey Taylor, Gordon Martin, Carlee Stanley; 2 great-grand-children Aniston Stanley, and Clayton Talley; siblings Henry (Mary) Stanley, Frank Stanley, Marybelle (Russell) Smith; in-laws, Susie Taylor Stanley and Bubby Tamburin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private family viewing will be held at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home on Tuesday. In lieu of a funeral service the family will host a celebration of Melvin's Life. You are asked to join them in remembering Melvin's life at Chesney Farms in Cartersville, GA 30120 on Wednesday, August 17, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
The gathering will be a potluck dinner. You are asked to bring a covered dish and beverage. The family will be supplying BBQ.
