Melvyn Terrell Hood, 70, of Cartersville died Monday May 30, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Melvyn went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family.
A native of Kingston, Mr. Hood was born August 8, 1940 son of Louise Pratt Hood and the late Earl McCourt Hood. He was a graduate of Cass High School and was employed for 37 � years as a model builder in the Lockheed �Martin Wind Tunnel. Melvyn was an honest man and good provider who took care of his family well. In his spare time Melvyn enjoyed working with model trains, fishing, and golf. Mr. Hood was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his father Earl McCourt Hood and by two brothers Phillip D. Hood and Joel P. Hood. The family wishes to thank the Cartersville Medical Center ICU Nursing staff for their outstanding compassion and care.
Survivors include his wife Quinn Knight Hood, to whom he was married June 11, 1991; his mother Louise Pratt Hood; two sons Michael Hood and J. Wayne Thacker and wife, Regina along with their son, Warren Thacker who was the apple of Melvyn�s eye; grandchildren Alyssa, Kristen, and Destin Hood; a brother Earl M. Hood, Jr.; maternal aunt and uncle Eloise and William Richardson, special fishing friend David Puckett and special neighbor Joe King, along with a niece, nephew, and many cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Melvyn Terrell Hood will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday June 3, 2011 in the Parnick Jennings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Scott Crowder and Mr. Parnick Jennings Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Cemetery.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jason Crowder, Nick Stephens, Jeff Cordell, Al Hood, David Peszko, and Joe Pratt. Honorary pallbearers are Todd Cordell, Tommy Jones, Jacob Jones, and Joe King.
The family received friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
