Mr. Mervil Eugene "Mert" Davis, 86, of Cartersville, died Saturday, September 05, 2015 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Mert, a native of Bartow County, was born May 27, 1929 to the late William T. Davis and Georgia Baldridge Davis. He was an active member of White United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge #63 F&AM of Cartersville. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force with 21 years of service. He was co-owner of Doug's Foreign Auto Cartersville, GA. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Virginia Champion, Dixie Champion; brothers, W. T., Bobby and Phillip Davis.
Survivors include his wife, of 62 years, Darlene Woodall Davis of Cartersville; daughter, Jan Davis Baxter (Greg) of Fairhope, AL; son, Doug Davis of Cartersville; grandchildren, Kelly Terry (Nick) of Cartersville, Candace Cochran (Dustin) of Acworth, GA, Samuel Baxter and John Baxter both of Fairhope, AL; great grandchildren, Payton Terry, Logan Terry, Alayna Cochran; sisters, Katherine Taylor of Carrollton, GA, Shirley Castleberry of Dalton, GA, Betty Logan of Winder, GA, Deborah Chambers of Milledgeville, GA; brothers, Herman Davis of Thompson Station, TN, Johnny Davis of Smyrna, GA, Steve Davis of Carrollton, GA; special caregiver, Fermin del Rosario.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 7, 2015 at White United Methodist Church with the Reverend Larry Russell officiating. Interment will follow in White Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Woodall, Lee McDaniel, Todd Woodall, Ryan Acord, Sam Baxter, John Baxter, Nick Terry and Dustin Cochran. Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the church.
