Mrs. Mildred Mary Mitchell, age 78, of 906 Magnolia Avenue, Rome, GA, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at her residence.Mrs. Mitchell was born in Cherokee County, AL, on July 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Burl and Ruby Morgan Odom. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the greater part of her life and was a longtime member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Prior to retirement in the early 1980's, Mrs. Mitchell had served as a dietician at several local schools including Northside, Reservoir Head Start, Anna K. Davies and West End Schools and also the Youth Development Center. She loved working with flowers, going to yard sales and estate sales, and traveling. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mitchell is preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Odom and Troy Odom.Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her husband, Clyde Mitchell, to whom she was married on December 24, 1946; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Claudia Mitchell of Rome; two grandchildren, Brad Mitchell of Rome and Heather Harvey of Las Vegas, NV; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Odom and Alice Rinker, both of Rome.Funeral services for Mrs. Mitchell will be held on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. David Davis and Rev. Michael Manning officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.Mrs. Mitchell will lay in-state in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Beverly Healthcare, 1345 Redmond Road, Rome, GA, 30165.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home by 2:30 p.m. Friday and include Mike Russell, Steve Holloway, Douglas Couey, Scott Couey, Hugh Terry and Gerald Terry.
