Mildred Selman

June 9, 1927 — December 14, 2007

Miss Mildred Melissa Selman of the Little Texas Valley Community, died Friday, December 14, 2007, in a Rome hospital.

Miss Selman was born in Floyd County, GA on June 9, 1927, the daughter of the late William Sanders Selman and Florence Irene McCurry Selman. Mildred Melissa has lived in the Little Texas Valley Community all of her life. She attended the Armuchee schools and graduated in 1944 at the top of her class. She was awarded a Full Scholarship to the University of Georgia for her high achievements.

Mildred Melissa was a member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church, attended as a baby, and then accepted Christ as her Savior at age thirteen, serving the church for seventy years in different capacities, a very faithful and devoted member. She served as secretary to the Sunday school and Discipleship Training. Mildred was a member of the Adult Choir and served as their secretary. She was a member of the O'Yes Choir, a Joy Club member and attended the Prayer Group of our WMU. Mildred Melissa was an Avon Representative in the Rome Area for many years.

She loved flowers and had many in her yard, like to sew, crochet, work puzzles, and do crossword puzzles. She loved to work the Bible Puzzles and crossword puzzles in the Rome News. She was a Bible winner every time she entered and donated them to the Swan Lake Church. She wanted to share her flowers with others. To know Mildred was to love her, she always had that winning "Smile" for all, even when we knew she had pain in the last two years she never complained.

She is survived by a large number of cousins who loved her very much. She leaves behind her beloved cat "Whiskers" who she loved very much as he did her. Also, a number of very "Special friends" who have stood by her and taken care of her during these past two years as she battled her fight with cancer. She loved all her church family and had many friends outside the church who have done many special things for her during this time.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 17, 2007, in the New Armuchee Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Kelley and Rev. Ed Holsomback officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.
