Mrs. Minerva Crider Beard, age 100, formerly of 64 East Drive, Rome, GA, died on Friday morning, October 2, 2009, at Golden Living Health Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Beard was born February 19, 1909, in Floyd County. She was the daughter of the late William Coleman Crider and the late Mary Elizabeth Graves Crider.
She was employed for a number of years at Rome Hosiery Mill until her retirement. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Rome. She had been a lifelong member for eighty-eight years. She was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class.
She loved her family and was beloved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her happiest times were spent with her grandchildren. She loved cooking, quilting, and crocheting.
She was married on August 24, 1929, to the late Joe Brown Beard, Sr., who preceded her in death on January 4, 1966. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Shiflett and Mrs. Olivia Kiker and four brothers, Vandiver, Donald, Vernon, and Ben Crider. Also, by two grandsons, Joe Brown ((Jody) Beard, III and Timothy Brett (Tim) Brewer.
She is survived by two sons, Joe Brown Beard, Jr. (Barbara) and John David Beard (Linda) both of Rome; three daughters, Martha (Jackie) Stewart of Rome, Janet Bray (Larry) of Palomar Park, CA, and Joy (Danny) Brewer of Rome; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Dale Levan and Dr. Mike Cordle officiating. Interment will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. in the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home and at other hours will be at the home of John and Linda Beard.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church by 10:30 A.M. on Monday and include the following grandsons, Jack and Fred Bray, Robert Reynolds, Keith and David Farmer, Vern Landrum, and Matt Kelley.
