Mittie Murphy

Mrs. Mittie Beatrice Crowder Murphy, age 91, of 1345 Redmond Road, Rome, GA, was called home to be a special angel on Sunday, May 13, 2007, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Murphy was born in Bartow County, GA on May 28, 1915, the daughter of the late Simon and Susie Gravitts Crowder. Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and attended Congregational Holiness Church of West Rome. She loved to quilt, sew, cook, read her Bible, and loved to build. Also she loved to sing, play the guitar and her accordion. In addition to her parents Mrs. Murphy is preceded in death by her husband, Mark Murphy, a great grandson, Klint Rogers, and two sisters, Pauline Ammons and Tensie Mae Martin.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by two sons, Chester Murphy of Rome, GA and Winfred Murphy of Dolan Springs, AZ; four daughters, Maxine Wilson of Armuchee, GA, Esther Buffington and her husband, Roy of Rome, GA, Delores Bryant of Rome, GA; and Vera Smith and her husband, Roy of Rome; twenty-six grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Elgin Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Scott Cemetery.

Mrs. Murphy will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Wednesday by 1:30 P.M.: Charles Dake, Jared Buffington, Billy Bryant, Johnny Knowles, and Roy Buffington.
