Mrs. Nellie May Whitener, 88, of Cartersville passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the Cartersville Medical Center. Born October 14, 1920 in White, she was the daughter of the late James Ray and the late Etta Mae Trammell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Jessie Whitener; her sisters, Shirley Pinion and Mary Jane Whitley; and her brothers, Willie Ray, Grady Ray, and Jim Ray, Jr.
Mrs. Whitener loved fishing, and she was known for her wonderful cooking. She also enjoyed collecting angels and dolls. Mrs. Whitener was of the Baptist faith and had retired from Lewis Carpet.
Survivors include her son, Albert Whitener; her daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Jack Darnell, Linda Sippel, and Pat and Donnie Elrod; her brother, J.R. Ray; her sister, Annie Lou Mundy; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2008 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Fred Lee, Rev. Donnie Summey, and Rev. Scott Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Cassville Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Elrod, Lee Elrod, Donnie Elrod, Jack Darnell, Tommy Bruce, and Nathan Chatman. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
The family will receive friends from 5 � 9 p.m. Saturday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
