A Life Well Lived: Opal Massey
Opal Sue Massey, age 84, of Adairsville was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 9, 2025 surrounded by her loving family and friends after a long battle with cancer. However, she fought her battle courageously and with grace.
Opal Massey was born in Bartow County in 1940, daughter of the late Willard Dockery and Nellie Cochran. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Massey Jr., sister Imogene Dockery, daughters Brenda Evans & Brenda Rogers, son James Massey, grandchildren Jessica Knox & Shane Proctor & her grand son in law John Johnson.
Survivors include her brother William (Buddy) Dockery, son Gary Knox (Sherry), daughters Lynette Wright (Eddie) & Joan Brown and her son in law Jeff Evans.
Opal was a faithful member and Co-Founder of Grace Temple Fellowship Church since October 1981. She embraced her love for music early in life, becoming an accomplished pianist for her church whose melodies brought comfort and joy to all who heard them. She often played hymns that resonated deeply, reminding others of God's grace and presence. She also had a love for playing the guitar and organ.
Opal was a woman of many talents, dedicating her career to both teaching and driving a school bus. Through these roles, she touched countless lives, guiding young minds and hearts with her kindness, patience, and wisdom. She believed deeply in the value of community and poured herself into serving others, always with a warm smile and helping hand.
Her greatest joy was her family, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally. Whether gathering around the piano for a song, offering words of encouragement, or simply being present, Opal made every moment with her loved ones special. Her kids, grandchildren & friends were her pride and joy, and her legacy of love will live on in their hearts forever.
Above all, Opal was a faithful servant of the Lord. She lived a life rooted in prayer, worship, and a desire to reflect Christ's love in all she did. Her faith sustained her in every season, and she shared that hope with all who crossed her path.
Though our hearts ache at her passing, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life she so steadfastly believed in. Opal leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will inspire generations to come.
